Leslie Petersen, who admits to having been “in possession of a level of ignorance about the homeless,” before she became a friend of Nickelsville, brings the first of three cakes she made for the camp’s birthday. The tents on the cake were made from one of the original, pink Nickelsville tents donated by the Girl Scouts.
September 26, 2009, Nickelsville throws a one-year anniversary party and fundraiser. Several volunteers and supporters come to prepare food and provide entertainment. The atmosphere is somewhat clouded by the looming eviction that will take place in four days. Some residents believe they will be able to make a stand and keep their home at Terminal 107 park.
